flying to rome

We highly recommend flying through Rome, Leonardo da Vinci International Airport in Fiumicino (FCO), one of Italy’s best-served and most reliable international airports during the pandemic.

Flights tend to be cheaper the further in advance they are booked. Typically they are cheapest when purchased in the fall, but keep in mind summer travel to Italy is considered part of the peak season.

*Make sure your flights are travel-protected and fully refundable for any reason— in the event the borders are not open to Americans or a lengthy quarantine is in place, we may have to reschedule.

*Covid testing may be required regardless of vaccination status.

travel from rome to assisi

If you are taking the train directly from Rome to Assisi, you will be traveling from Roma Termini to Assisi Station (Stazione di Santa Maria degli Angeli-Assisi). Check out ItaliaRails’s Frequently asked questions.

There are other ways to get to Assisi, but trains are probably the most foolproof. It is recommended that you take Alta Velocita (high-speed) trains. The trip is about two hours by train or car.

*Make sure your tickets, tours, buses, or car reservations are travel-protected and fully refundable for any reason in the event the borders are not open to Americans.

*Be mindful of any updated Covid train travel requirements, should they change as the trip approaches.

travel from Assisi station to villamena

Villamena will arrange taxis for each group, or if a substantial number of guests will arrive together, a shuttle will be arranged. Check-in is not until 4pm on June 20th, so please plan accordingly.

If you plan to arrive before check in, you might consider a brief stop in the town of Assisi or the town in which the station is located, Santa Maria degli Angeli. Logistics can be found here.

Please contact the bride once your arrival time is determined so transportation can be scheduled on your behalf. Since the bride and groom will be traveling prior to the event, it is desirable to schedule your transportation from the station to the villa prior to June 1, 2022.

the villa/guest lodging

Lodging has been arranged for all guests on the Villamena property for a very reasonable fee. This can be paid directly to the bride upon assignment. Assignments will be finalized after all RSVPs have been confirmed.

There are 11 apartments; all have been elegantly and traditionally furnished, but have all the modern comforts of today. The floors are terra-cotta, the furniture is made of oak, and adorned with antique decor. Some sleep a single couple and others accommodate a small group.

There is a telephone, a TV and a safe in each. There are table and chairs for eating ‘al fresco’ in the Villa’s large garden. Each has a kitchenette, a bathroom and sleeping areas.

If you’d like to arrange for morning pastries and coffee to be added to your bill, please inquire with the bride.

what to pack

The wedding is cocktail attire, and the remainder of the stay at Villmena is casual. There is a pool, a tennis court and beautiful outdoor scenery, so pack accordingly.

The ceremony is outdoors, so be mindful of shoe selection.

Those wishing to visit churches must covers shoulders and knees, and wear shoes.

translating your documents

Travelers to Italy from the U.S. and other countries have noted challenges using their green pass or vaccination cards. It is advisable to translate all necessary documents to Italian for ease of use.

US driver’s licenses may also be used for tourism, but again - it is advisable to translate these documents to Italian in the event you need to show them to a non-English-speaker. Or, you can apply for an international permit. Read more here.
